Post Oil pressure problem after cam install

I just really started driving the car since I installed a new cam & roller rockers. Now the oil pressure gauge is real jumpy. At idle it bounces between 20-40 & driving it bounces between 40-80 (a lot of the time being pegged at 80). For the most part it seems to be pinned at 80 while on the gas, but when I had the cruise control set it was steady at 40. I'm guessing it's the sending unit, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else ran into this problem??? Oh yeah, the initial reason for doing the cam was a blown head gasket. I'm not sure if that could have caused this problem.

Are you sure you got the oil pump drive gear and drive shaft all back in right?

mine does that too as soon as it goes into closed loop. Idle drops and the pressure goes down. I sometimes wonder if it is really just an electrical problem.

The oil pump drive shaft went together fine. I'm sure it's engaged with the cam right. It seems more like an electrical problem to me because there's so much variation. Within a few seconds it'll go from 20-80 and back down to something in the middle. It seems to bounce around more when I'm on the gas. It alway's swings to the high side of the gauge. It's never gone below 20 lbs.

Is there a place to hook up a mechanical oil pressure gage on the LT1? If so plug one in and that will tell you for sure what's going on.

Does anyone know off hand where I can hook a 2nd oil pressure gauge, or will I have to hook iy up where the stock sending unit is?

You can adapt one to the block just above the oil filter....I think 93's use that as the sender....95 is on the top of the block at the back of the intake? right? I d bet it got damaged during intake install.....or did you have the trans worked on? If the trans was worked on recently they broke the sender......

I'm sure it was me that scrwed it up when putting the intake on. I didn't think I hit it, but could be wrong. I was warned about it before the cam install & was trying to be careful. Oh well, I have the finess of an ape!!! I'll try to run another guage this weekend to see if that works.

Thanks for all the replies.
