New motor stumble.

Ok guys just wondering if you could throw some idea's my way. Just had a sbc 406 built, eagle rotating assembly,10:1, Pro-Topline 200cc 2.02/1.65, Harland Sharp roller rockers, Doug Herbert solid roller cam 306/278 .499/.502,Team G intake. Ok i ran out of money before i could purchase my new carb so we stuck an old 600 Edelbrock we had laying around on it just to get it started and check oil pressure/temp/set timing...and it runs great at an idle. I tried to take it up the road and we got problems. The car stumbles and chokes down everytime you move the throttle while in gear. I eventually got it up to about 3000rpm and was able to actually give it some gas and had good power until it started stumbling again. Do you think the carb's just in that bad of shape or something else? I am using a mechanical fuel pump and was thinking maybe need to replace it. Any idea's would be appreciated and if there is anymore info needed just ask and i will reply as soon as possible. Thanks in advance guys.

Re: New motor stumble.

yeah thats about my experience with edelbrock carbs and big cams. i've had some guys pull in here griping about thier brand new edelbrock carb. the exhaust would literally burn your eyes and you couldnt stand next to the car for the fumes, and there was always a bad stumble almost to the point the car would die. as for suggestions on fixing it i havent the foggiest because i dont tune edelbrocks. now dont get me wrong i'm not down on edelbrocks everything has its place, and the big E belongs on something with an rv cam. when you get your new carb it'll straighten up more than likely. the edelbrock is an airvalve just like a quadrajet both of which dont really like big cams due to the way they function. i suggest a demon carb when you're looking for your new one the 4 corner iab's are nice and i always have better luck tuning them than i do with holleys.
