A few questions for the advanced crowd
A few questions for the advanced crowd
Question #1
Which muffler would produce the most power on a 4" Mufflex. Both mufflers single inlet and outlet.
Flowmaster 4" "shootout" muffler.
Magnaflow 4" shootout series.(straight through muffler)
Question#2
Fuel pump volt boosters, whats out there? I need something to work with a normally aspirated application, I have seen the kenne bell BAP, volt blaster etc, any more that will up voltage?
The reason these questions are here is most people in regular tech don't know the answers.
Thanks
David

Re: A few questions for the advanced crowd
First off, I don't consider myself part of the "Advanced Crowd", but I have some
good resources on your questions. The others can critique/confirm my suggestions:
From the data/consumer reports, the Magnaflow muffler is said to make the
most power (compared to Flowtech) as it has the least resistance to exhaust flow. All things being,
equal (pipe dimension, exhaust length), the muffler with the most flow will
produce the most power.
As for the volt booster, MSD has one available. I would think most of these
devices will come down to a matter of cost. The circuitry can't be too different between manufacturers, therefore the function, quality and reliabilty 'should'
be on a level field. IOW, I would base my decision on price rather than brand
name.

Re: A few questions for the advanced crowd
I saw the Mufflex 4" with single outlet Flowmaster support 1,125HP in a 30th SS. He even had the tips from the SS's original "2OTL" exhaust welded on the end of the outlet from the Flow'. When they removed the complete exhaust system, leaving just a Borla 3" XR1 shorty on each LT header collector, there was no change in HP on the chassis dyno. The only "gain" was a 50# weight reduction.
On of the strangest pic's I ever took was the rust blowing out of the Flow' on the first hard launch of the season.....

Re: A few questions for the advanced crowd
very very impressive mike, almost too good to believe that you gained over 10% more power by going from one muffler to another, both aftermarket!
I strongly suggest corsa, they have strait through mufflers and muffle sound be reflecting sound waves to cancle other sound waves

Re: A few questions for the advanced crowd
I would have to say I agree witht he Magnaflow Choice. I've seen and talked to way to many guys testing these two types of mufflers back to back on the dyno and every one of them ends up with Magnaflows on the motor.
All 3 years of the Engine Masters Challenge every guy in the money used Magnaflow or another straight thru muffler over a Flowmaster. I know the guys have tested them on the dyno too to see which ones work the best and they all end up with the same parts. Wonder why?
I'm sure if Fred says Baxter's car made good power with a Flowmaster it made good power, there might be a good Flowmaster out there that works, but on average a Magnaflow/Dynomax (same company) will out power them.

Re: A few questions for the advanced crowd
Would Mario Andretti ever steer you wrong? Of course not.
Imagine my surprise that a product that's advertised and hyped out the wazoo like the Magnaflow products would actually give real performance advantages. Learn something new every day, I guess.
