New here and have a dry sump question
New member and have a question reguarding a dry sump system.
I have plans in the works for a forged/Billet bottom end ls1 with about a 9.1:1 CR and im looking at cranking 20+lbs of boost into it through a twin turbo setup, I am trying to locate a dry sump system to handle the oiling needs of both the engine and the turbo's as they will be generating a lot of heat.
I think I am going to be needing a 3-4 stage Dry sump system to supply the needed flow and presures demanded by the engine and turbo setup. any help with what I should be looking at for the lube system would be appreaciated. thank you.

Re: New here and have a dry sump question
The dry sump pans I've seen on LS1 engines were in the Daytona Prototype (DP) racers. Just looked at some of the engines this weekend at Watkins Glen. The pans were billet aluminum pieces. I suspect they are available if you search enough. That surely wold be cheaper (but not cheap!) than designing and manufacturing you own. The bracketry for pumps should also be available.

Re: New here and have a dry sump question
Look into the circle track market for a 3 stage pump and all the brackets. You might not be able to buy as a kit but i know you can piece the parts together. I did a quick search and found this.

If you plan to pump that much boost then a lower cr might be a good idea.

Re: New here and have a dry sump question
9.1:1 isnt low at all, maby for NA. Thats high for the boost your talking about running.
I would want to be running 8:1 or so if I was planning on 20+ Pounds of boost, rskrause is running 7.8:1 I think?

Re: New here and have a dry sump question
let your motor builder (hopefully somebody with lots of experience doing what you are doing) decide. 9:1 is not high, nor low. it depends on what you are doing exactly.
I know of a certain LT1 that ran 11:1 and 20psi for several seasons with out an engine failure.

Check out Armstrong Race Engineering at http://www.drysump.com/index1.htm
They have a complete LS1 kit. He makes sumps for the prototype cars. I have never used their LS1 kit, but we use the SBC sumps and I saw the LS1 sump at the PRI show and it is a very nice piece. They are very good to work with.
