Post new gm 383 crank

hey, anyone thought about using the new gm 383 crank in a lt1/lt4, it uses the stock bore with a 3.800 stroke, p/n 12489436, rods 12497870, pistons 12489437,,

has a 8 inch balancer listed, but could it be re-balanced for our hub and balancer, it uses the same one piece seal and flywheel,

just an idea to make a simple 383, no machine work if you had a low milage lt1/lt4, just clearance the block, hone the cyl's if good and your set, a 383 that could be built in a weekend,

any thoughts?

thanks

Cool

I looked into this. Problem was those were the only pistons i could find and i need better ones.

so your saying if these pistons would be what a person wanted for comp ratio / hp rating, the setup would work

Thats interesting.....a ussual 383 is .030 over and a 3.75 stroke....

4.00 stroke and the 3.80 stroke makes it a 382. But with that crank it would put the pin hieght at a .050 diffedrence....

I m guessing thats close enough with a stock deck hieght that would put the piston out of the deck about .025....(.025 deck hieght ussually.....) = .050 total....

With a .039 head gasket that puts the piston about .014 from the head.......so maybe the easy solution is to use a off the shelf 3.75 stroke 383 piston....and have them cut about .015 to .020 and have a great combustion chamber.....

That would make it ...
4.030 bore....(Mine as well) with a 3.80 stroke....= 388...so a couple free cubes too...

yuo that was the problem. You either had to have cutom pistons or shave a set. I was looking long term. First I wanted as much deck as I could for N2O. This kind of left me NOT wanting to shave the pistons and put me into custom piston range. anyone priced custom pistons lately

i wound up with a Eagle 4340 non twist forging for $550 to my door. then a set of coated Wiseco pistons for about the same.

The GM setup should be killer for TQ/ let us know how it turns out.

why not just go with a plain jane 383 (maybe overbore it .040 to get a 385) or a 3.875" crank with no overbore for 390cid?

Any ideas on why they choose such an odd stroke?

I mean is the extra .050" of stroke really worth it?

i figure they made it that way just to keep the standard bore and still have a 383, this set up will make a 383 very simple to build,

the crank rods pistons are all based from the new 383 truck crate engine,

i saw an article in one of the magazines and they the took this 383 crate engine and put a different cam in it and did some work to the vortec heads,( i think just machined to work with the cam), and it made like 430 hp, and more than that in torque

i think this setup , will make for a very simple 383 build up, and all the parts cost about $1500 total
