Need Idler pully, any ideas?/ Eaton M112... LT1 update

Hey guys,

Looking for a idler pulley (not tentionor) to use on my car with the Eaton. The pulley must be 2 inches or smaller in diameter (pretty much rules out anything stock i can think of) and must have a strong bearing.

Check here for belt routing and other updates

A buddy of mine suggested a roller skate off a skate board and I actually machined it to work but I'm not trusting after i was finished I thought...... I've got to be crazy to trust a roller skate bearing

I've seen Jesse James use it a roller skates a few times but nothing with load on it like this.

Anyways, YOu guys got any ideas one what i can use?

I’d be afraid of using a roller skate bearing for anything like that. They just weren’t designed for that type of constant load.

When we built my brother’s M90 setup we were in the scrap yard and found half a dozen or so tensioners (at $3/lb ) and were able to pull them apart and get the correct size idler and tensioner or his setup, no idea what they cam from.

If I read your photo/sketch the correct way, you are extending the stock 7-rib belt to add the blower to the existing system. Why? Will the stock 7-rib belt stand up to that kind of load? Why not simply use the "extra" pulley (appears you have a U/D pulley behind the damper) and drive the blower with its own belt. You could then use an adjustable idler or a tensioner on the "blower only" belt.

I used a pulley from March Performance. It is for use on the flat side of a 6-rib serpentine belt. The link to the pic is below. It is the small pulley next to the alternator. Hope this helps.

What about an old accessory pulley like from the power steering pump? It's made for the stock ribbed belt(although it's a smooth pulley). You may have to make your own bracket for it, but it'd be a start.

I also agree with Fred about the separate blower belt. Why not use ATI's setup of stock balancer / aluminum spacer / blower pulley?

i'm just going to have to get creative in the junkyard.

With the blower sitting on top of the motor and the LT1's far sticking waterpump (not to mention mine is electric) it wouldn't be feasible to try to run a piggy back pulley off the crank

The 03 cobras run everything on one belt (as far as i know) i don't see it being a problem

BTW... got the upper intake 75% completed and the injectors mounted up today

Cool

I used a stock Idler pulley off of a 2.8 camaro along with a thick piece of sheet aluminum and made my own A/C delete pulley for free... Eassssyyyyyy....

If you make a place to mount it, your fine since it's the same width and about 2" around.

EDIT : You can mount that idler pulley right there in the pics by simpley drilling a hole and using washers to space it properly. If you want one, I can probably find one laying around next week or so.
