Need Help with Ignition key cylinder

Hi all,
Hope someone could help me! I have a 96 z28 and I am changing the ignition key cylender the whole unit since I dont have keys. The VIN does not help because the lock was changed prior so the key cut does not fit.

So If I buy a ignition cylinder with new keys and the Chip do I need to take the car to the dealership so that they reset the computer? If so is there a way arround it?

Thx Guys very much!!!

Gogi

I heard that you have to reset it because of the chip in the key. So that the computer can program the resistance again?

Do you know about this?

Routine tech and maintenance questions should be posted on the appropriate "generation" board... in this case "LT1 Tech". It does not belong on Advanced Tech.
