Modify Lt1 manifold to use distributor?
Modify Lt1 manifold to use distributor?
I was pondering switching to carb but there are some clearence issues it seems. One other thing i was wonderin aobut. I know that the 3rd gen guys modify the lt1 manifold to fit there cars, is there a way to have the provisions made to the lt1 manifold for a normal distibutor and use that in place of the opti but still use the fuel injection? What else would be needed, woud there be a way to use the stock icm and coil? Would you need an msd or equivilant ingnition system? I am just trying to see all of my options before i do something. I really am greatful for all of the help you guys give me.

The stock PCM is looking for the unique high and low res pulse signals that the Opti produces. Without at least the low res signal, it shuts down the fuel system.... injectors and pump. There is supposedly a $400 "black box" that will allow the Opti optical signals to feed the stock PCM and drive a direct fire 8-coil LS1 style system. See thread link below.
There is also a system running the FAST/eDIST setup with a crank trigger and a home-brew cam position/synch signal, and several of us run aftermarket computer systems (e.g. MoTeC) using the Opti optical signal and an LS1 coil setup. It's all covered in the thread:

i started to read through that then i got to one of you post that said if you have a 93 intall e-motive and it will work. I will still need the msd crank ingnition right? Where can you get the e-motive thing from and how much is it?
E'motive built about 20 of the "Opti-Eliminator/SDI" units, then stopped making them, because of the injector phasing problems on the sequential frie 94/95's. You need to ask around and see if anyone wants to sell one. My original unit is currently owned by "Unstable Bob". E-mail him at "unstablebobsales@aol.com"

We have done it on a couple of applications...
The drilling of the intake in fairly straight ahead. If I recall, the cam already has the gear on it for the Dist-drive.
We use an Accel Gen 7 DFI "Spark & Fuel" kit to run the engine, an MSD Pro-Billet Distributor and it works beautifully

Thank you for all of the help guys.. I have made up my mind. I am going away from anything that has to do with a computer. My car still wont start with new opti, plugs, wires, icm, coil. I am going to have a single plane manifold re drilled so it will bolt up then i am running a msd crank trigger with there crank tirgger distributor and a msd 6al. I hope it will all work out. I think i am going to run into clearnce issues with the carb though.
You need to re-read my post to your other thread about a Single Plane intake. It CAN be done by just fixing the intake, but its gonna be alot more complicated and will cost $$$$ for the machine work.
On another note, although the complexity of EFI and all can be daunting, I really don't think you should give up on it. Besides spending the $$ on dong this conversion I'd look further into fixing your existing problem.
JMO, It is your car in the end though.
