Miniram an upgrade?
Miniram an upgrade?
I have the oppertunity to try out a miniram on my 383 LT1 and was wondering if it would yield any improvements. It was on a blown SBC and oddly enough, it's also drilled with the LT1 pattern! The angle is wrong but slotted so some type of angled wedge will be needed under the bolts. Anyway, my car is a '94 383 with early AFR heads (twice ported, 260cfm, 199/cfm @.5". The cam is a solid roller CC 242,248 610",615 w/1.6. 1 3/4" headers, dual 3" exhaust through mufflers. There is more, but that should be whats important. Currently it runs a best of 11.42@125.3 on drag radials with a 1.72 best 60'. I know I'm limited by the LT1 intake and a single plane is the way to go (or sheet metal). The miniram appears to have a larger plenum and better runner shape/angle. The miniram is ported to my gasket size too. The question is: would this be an upgrade, and if so how much of the way to a single plane is this move? And does anyone know where to get the angled wedges?

Any ideas on what to do about the different angle of the intake bolts? Are there angled wedges available for this? I could probably call TPIS, but I don't particularly like them... By the way, this manifold comes with a monoblade TB
That ought to be insteresting.

Best way to do it is with the intake on the motor, and with a long bolt screwed into the adjacent mounting hole from the one you're boring that will give you a point of reference from which you can "eyeball" what angle to have your grinder tilted at. These things go through aluminum like a hot knife through butter so use a light touch with low tool speed.
