Methanol Injection?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to be asking this or not so my apologies in advance. I was just wondering if someone is running a Methanol Injection system on an EFI SBC, Gen 1, 2 or 3.

I am not asking about what many forced inductions guys are doing. I'm trying to ask about running just Methanol as the sole basis of the fuel system?

Hoping to find some good info on this subject here.

Thanks for the replies in advance

Floyd.

Re: Methanol Injection?

You can install any one of these systems

www.ronsfuel.com

As for using the factory system converted to alcohol, I doubt it would work

Thanks for the link.
If you have the money to buy the special fuel system and 4.50-5 dollars a gallon for methanol go ahead. It is a very forgiving fuel(it will run decent when the setup is all wrong).

Re: Methanol Injection?

Sorry to be a broken record, but if you use Ye Olde search function you will that this has been discussed before. Lots of the regulars get tired of posting the same stuff over and over again so threads like this often have spotty response. My response is limited on that basis as I have posted extensively on this in the past and have a limited amount of time right now.

But the first question is: are you talking about a street car or a race car? Done right, methanol is a great race fuel. But it is quite impractical on the street.

Race car

I tried to use the search but it kept on coming up with Forced induction stuff.

Don't use the word "injection" in your search.

The main issue with alcohol is that it takes 2.3-2.5x the volume of gasoline. So, you are gonna need a huge pump(s), fuel line, new regulator, etc. And if you stay EFI, huge injectors, fuel rails and so on. A carb, or course, has to be modified to flow that much more fuel. But that's really the only big issue.

Alcohol starts hard, especially on cool days, but spraying a little starting fluid or gas will solve that problem. If all the fuel system parts aren't fully compatible, it needs to be drained after each meet and it absorbs water like crazy. It's much cheaper per gallon than race gas (we just paid ~$110/55gal drum) but since you need 2.3-2.5 times as much, it's every bit as expensive as race gas to use. You motor will run incredibly cool, which is generally great.

I assume you know the advantages or you wouldn't be asking. But in a nutshell, potentially ~10% more hp and the great detonation resistance of alcohol. There's more to it, but that's what came to mind off the top of my head.

I'm surprised at that, most everything is more expensive here (than anywhere else!). But we do have a substantial local chemical industry and we have a big wholesaler as a source. So, it's not a "retail" price. We bring our own drum and they fill it.

The paper Co's use it in there processes down here and I guess that's why the price is up there. The re refined stuff has been used by the paper Co's and then filtered. We have used it in the sprint car but you have to keep a check on the nozzles as it will get "stringy"stuff in the screens and light up a header. We try not to use it very often if new is available.
