machine work

I just bought a 95' talon, im pulling the motor to freshen the rings. I was thinking of just using the hone I have that attaches to my drill to do the cylinder walls. Anyone ever done this? what oil did you use, etc? What about polishing the crank, any do it yourself tips. And if the rods are not egg shaped I will throw bearings in.

well

I gues it all depends on what u want the car to do. I have a friend who took a junk yard 455 buick and put a set of aluminum head on it after blowing a 7000.00 bottom end. he did exactly what you said you want to do.
Used a hand hone for the cylinders, nothing to the crank but new bearings, throws it together and it lasts two season running low 11's in a 2900 lb car. The cylinders had wear marks from the piston skirts when he put it together even after the hone. I couldn't believe he was putting it together like that but hey it worked. Eveything was so loose but it was put together right, bearings clearanced and rings file fitted, etc. The key here is max rpm was 6000. Thats alot for buick 455 with the block webbing being so thin and all. So if you watch what your doing you may get away with it. Good Luck.

Oh yeah, he blew the 7000.00 bottom end cause he put epoxy in the lifter galley to make the block stronger, a week spot on buicks. But put the stock oil pan back on it. Moral of the story is do not restrick oil flow to the oil pan unless you increase oil supply. You can cheap yourself into trouble for sure.
