LT1 in a 3rdgen conversion. What wiring harness??

I did a search for 3rdgen LT1 conversion and no hits. LT1 conversion got me a TON of LT1 to LT4 conversion posts.

So I am putting an LT1 from a 94 caprice into my 92 Firebird. The cast heads are cracked so I'm getting a set of aluminum heads off of an F-body. I got the entire engine assembly including the stock wiring harness. The only thing missing was the water pump and PCM.

The stock location for the PCM on a caprice is the front drivers side of the engine bay I believe. I don't know how to mount the PCM in that location on a 3rd gen f-body and have it look professional. I keep hearing people say that I should get a Painless wiring harness for this. Do they make a harness for this conversion? Does anyone know the part #? Does it hook up to my stock body and dash harness easy?

Anyone got any info on this? I know this conversion is common. Someone has got to know.

Yeah Painless does, that's what I would do as well.... Google them up and look around and you should find it.

Try this:

Third Gen swap info

There are other links in this thread. Thirdgen.org is a great place for third gen related info.

The "painless" harness would be a very big waste, only making your wallet lighter. It will help you no more than a stock LT1 f body harness with the connectors cut off and wires labeled. IMO you'd be in better shape using the Caprice harness, and mounting the computer in the tray area on the drivers side like where the battery is on the pass side.

The diagrams are out there, come over to www.thirdgen.org the LT1 thirdgen crowd is growing quite a bit.

Yeah I've been a registered member of Thirdgen.org forever. I've already seen the info there and didn't really find anything on this topic. Just thought I'd try here.

I really dont know how you cant find the info on the topic there. The swap has been done many times, the wiring diagrams have been posted many times, just a few that I know of who have done the swap, me (Z28ricer), TexasLT1, Klortho, Pasky, MM89iroc, matt89rs, Serpent99, and quite a few others im forgetting at the moment, everything has been discussed from wiring, to using either the LT1 or thirdgen radiator, fans, a/c fittings and lines, different tranny's etc. I just replied to someones post in the LTx/LSx section there on the wiring, that should pretty much explain it all if you look at it. Seems to me you arent trying to find the info cause its all there. After you do a few searches, if you come up with something specific you'd like to ask please feel free to, post up or catch me on aim - Z28ricer

If I were to do it again, especially if I didn't have a pcm or a harness. I would use a megasquirt. It's cheap and you can build your own harness. I plan on changing from the stock obd1 pcm and harness that I an currently using to one of these in the future. It is more expandable for forced induction and it's cheap.
