Little Chief Heads on a 400ci+ question

I'm currently build a 400ci+ SBC and need a killer valvetrain to support the cubes. I want to go EFI because I still want to use this as a daily driver, well, as much as it can be. Money isn't an issue, but I'm looking at $5k for heads right now. I was wondering what people thought of Dart's Little Chief heads and what I would need to do to get them to work as they are 11* heads. OR are there any other heads I should look into ie Dart Pro 1's? (I did read that thread)

Intended Setup:
Dart 400 block
Flat top forged pistons
4340 forged 3.75"+ crank
forged h-beam rods

thanks,
Zack

You know those heads take a special intake, rocker arms, pistons and headers?

I would make it a hyd roller if I was gonna daily drive it.

I personally might look into an All Pro 23* head, you can make them flow stupid numbers and most 23* stuff works with them...pistons, intakes etc.

Not sure about headers, they may have a spread port exhaust. Both will require a shaft rocker I think.

$5000 for just heads. You're right at a set of Arao heads for that.

all right, thanks for info. I wasn't sure if you needed a special block with offset lifter bores and a raised cam, but I knew they had a spread-port exhaust. I'm gonna go with some All Pro's.

Well, you might get the raw castings for that and then add another $10-15,000 to actually make them work. Just ask "Unstable Bob" about them!

I can't even hazard an answer to the OP without some idea of budget and knowing what is the goal. Unless you are Bill Gates, money will always be an issue. I would persoanlly NOT go Gen I at all for a high dollar NA small block buildup. I would go with ths LSx architecture, for sure. More cubes, less weight, much better off the shelf heads that don't need custom everything to work.

Just MHO and I'd be glad to venture an answer to the question if the OP provides more info.

What do you mean? For the engine only it says on their site any standard intake will work with stock port locations and angles and a set of large tube Hooker headers were designed to fit the exhaust. Even standard head gaskets work. I understand supporting mods and all that, but not sure what you mean when you say to make them "work".

These will put you at a HP level that your LT1 block becomes the suspect of failure.
They can be hand ported to 360+CFM,about 750FWHP.
I have a LT1 block that LSM did for me and the money spent to mod it was enough to have bought a Little "M",Dart, ect and have the machine work done on them.
Unless ya just want to be unique there are options out there to make a BUNCH of FWHP

Search for "Unstable Bob" and read some of his posts about those heads.

If you want something a little different I'd shoot for a set of SB2's than the little chief's. As stated the chief's are alot of work and at "only" 400 inches they would be total overkill for your stated application.

hey man...variety is the spice of life!

we were hoping the valley plate would bolt into a traditional dart block without major modification....but the dart has less material at the bottom...so now we are left with a hi dollar ltx block!

enjoy the snow headed your way!
