Not getting any luck over in LT1 tech, thought I'd ask in the more technical area. TIA

Re: Lifter question, seeking help.....

The lifter's have about .100 working area.If they have been setting some may bled down, some do some don't,even new ones. The seat for the check ball has to be perfect not to bleed down. That means no trash, even the size of a human hair, which most people wouldn't even pay attention to in an engine, and most seats are not "that" perfect anyway. This is why you may hear the lifters clack, clack a few times when the engine is started cold. With oil pressure they should be quiet and most seats don't leak enough to be noisy with oil pressure. A lot depends on the QC of the manufacturer and what the criteria is at assembly to call a leaker a bad lifter not worthy of being shipped.

Some may be easy to push some may not push down at all-the seat thing.

I'll bet you had the same thing happen that I did (it's probably my pics you're refering to). While I never tested mine the same way you are, I would expect the one on the right:

Would act the way you're describing if I had.

Re: Lifter question, seeking help.....

I pulled the valve covers tonight and took a look as best I could, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Strangely enough, NONE were able to be compressed.

But, last time I ran the car, I'd get a sharp snapping sound from what sounded like a couple of them.

I'll take another look once I get the car running again.

Yeah, I'm hoping to avoid doing that, and I don't really have the money for new lifters now considering that these are so new. If I drop more on lifters instead of saving for my wedding I'm going to be crucified.

Looking at your picture, to me the lifter on the left looks like it's collapsed, but you mentioned the right one?? Am I missing something?

Did you inform Comp about your issues?

I haven't yet. I was planning on calling them tonight or tomorrow after some more playing with it. I'm going to go through it again real good tonight moving each cylinder to TDC and then checking them again.

Yeah he did! and they are sending him a new set. It looks like a bad heat treatment of the snap rings that hold the plunger down, it can happen.

Whoops. I was tired this morning when I replied to this thread, didn't even see the question was directed towards Jon A.

Another pertinant question: How old were these when replaced?? I bought mine in March of 2003, but they weren't installed until August of 03, and saw less than 1000 miles to date.
