Installing MSD Distributer in LTt Intake.

I have heard and seen that it is possoble to install a MSD distributer in the intake of a lt1/lt4 and do away with the optispark.

Has anyone done this before.

I am thinking of doing this than the ls1 coil modification.

Thanks in advance

Do you still plan to stay fuel injected?? There is more than meets the eye when you do away with the opti, if you are swtiching to the carb intake it is easier.

Yes i am staying fuel injected.

The other option i am investigating is using a Jesel belt drive with their front mounting distributer.

I already have the FAST system and just not 100% sold on the edis LS1 coil solution yet.

any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

If i had the money i would be doing the jesel belt drive with a front mount. Onother option is a crap style cap with a crank trigger if you want to keep it accurate.

I am going with a SB1 setup just due to this problem with the opti conversion being one of the factors. Head selection and cost is also coming to play.

What are your goals and why are you trying to do this? Just curious?

I have a 396 lt1 that I have a set of ported afr210s lt4 intake. I am upgrading my supercharger from a d1sc to a intercooled YS Cog setup.

Going to produce significant more boost and plan on having the car into the low 9s or possibly high 8's

I am installing custom guages, full electronics, and already have the FAST system installed. I am looking on doing away with the opti, stock PCM and replace all the wiring. the car will have manual brakes and i most likely I will be converting to manual steering also.

MSD's "small cap" distributor (pn8570) will fit under there if you hack out the cowl area above it. That area is double-walled and there's about 4" of empty space up in there to be had with a cutting wheel and a couple hours. If you remove the wipres and plastic cowl piece you can look down in there and see all the room.

Heres an idea for you guys,

I've often thought about a way to not so much get rid of the optispark but switch to a 7749 (sy/ty) pcm to take advantage of the 2-3bar map setup.

The brick wall in my dreaming has been what to do about the opti high and low res signals. IF you where to use a convential HEI dist you could use the 749, no opti, and a easy service convential dist.

The only limits would be 4l60E's so it would be limited to 93's or 6 speeds.
