Installing Cam with both Heads offf?

From the Pro's, is it a good idea to install a Cam with the Heads off? I remember reading somewhere that it was best to have the heads torgued down first.

Nope I usually do it after I put the crank in. Easier to degree that way.

Re: Installing Cam with both Heads offf?

yea... heads off, and if your block torques the camshaft when you torque the heads.... pull maybe 100 psi of torque off the head bolts, then have it re align bored.... head bolt torque shouldnt matter at all....

however they may have been doing a complete setup and they wanted the heads torqued to spec so they could check pushrod length and rocker arm alignment right away, too???

I personally always install the cam with the heads off, I prefer that degree method than the heads on method. However it is all a matter of preference and what you personally prefer.
