how many hp does p/s eat?
how much power does p/s eat?
Does anyone have any e/t drops or chassis/ engine dynos # for power steering vs manual. I am considering not hooking it up on my s10 to save some hp and loose weight, Im going for the power to weight in a big way
. A bit un advanced tech; How does p/s work does it free wheel unless if you are stering or is it always pumping?

should probably be moved out of advanced tech, but here's an answer.
power loss -- no dyno #s, but little. maybe 3-5hp when turning.
it pumps all the time, but uses more power when turning than when it's not.
It does make a decent weight savings (pump, lines, fluid), but if you are going manual, get a manual rack. the power rack without power assist is harder to turn than a manual rack.
