Re: Horsepower vs. Torque...

i still don't understand why.
if you just set a car on a dyno and pull it up to 4k rpms, it will say you get get this much work done in this time. then bring it up to 5k rpms and hold it for a minute and it will say you get this much work done in a minute. of course you could shorten it out with math, but to me it seems that this way would be better than having hp and tq.

what i am saying is why not do away with HP and have only one measurement, tq per minute per rpm, or work per minute per rpm.

i know, i'm stubborn

The dyno puts a load on the engine, otherwise it would just explode. You see what the engine does under the load and at what RPM, etc.

Re: Horsepower vs. Torque...

You need HP to define the POWER

Torque alone does nothing.

Once you factor in RPM, you are creating an equation that needs a result...
that would be HP.

Think of this:

You have a wrench. It is one foot long. You apply a force to that wrench.
Turn the wrench 360 degrees in one minute.

That's pretty easy and doesn't require much power.

Turn that wrench 5000 times per minute. How much POWER would you need
to accomplish that?
