Screw it just bypass the problem.
Sounds to me like you need a bigger converter one at about 5200 should do the trick

I think you know the cure, just dig into it and play with the ignition setup.

oops

Also what things are the same as the old setup. Although it appears that you changed a lot around maybe its something that carried over.

Just a thought

Just a thought.....

There is NOTHING mechanical I know of that will tank like that in a 1000 RPM range and then recover again in higher RPMs. Fuel pressure, valvetrain issues, intake restrictions, exhaust restrictions. ALL get nothing but worse with increasing RPMs once they kick in. The problems is almost certainly electronic in nature.

Do you hear some popping through the exhaust in the RPM range? I bet you do.

Have you tried a brand new chip instead of just erasing your existing one?

Just curious but what's your boost doing during this power drop?? Is it taking a stall also??

Does this problem happen in all gears or just high gear?

thats why i'm here. if it was something simple or usual.. or just not such a pain I would have figured it out a long long time ago.

Its had 3 different optisparks on it since this problem has arose.

When you say it's had two different engines in it, do you mean entirely different, as in two blocks, or just two different setups?

i'm just thowing out some ideas here. whats the fuel pressure reading when this happens? are you using the same 6A on both engines? if so send it back, its more then likely the culprit. you're using the same heads, are you for certain the springs are in perfect shape? they could be going into resonance causing a "brief" valve float. were they the same springs used on the other motor, and did it happen at the same rpm?
install an EGT gauge to see if its leaning out, it the temp drops alot then your cylinders are dropping spark and you can continue on with the ignition. just my 2cents
