Lightbulb Home Made Octane Booster

Home Made Octane Booster

Has anyone used any of these formulas before? Seems like it makes sense and would work, but you can't trust everything you read on the internet. Would Methyl-teritary-butyl-ether (MTBE) be the best to use since it has a lower BTU than Toulene or Xylene and the oxygenate effect it has makes the gas burn better? They have ratings for a mixture of up to 30%, is that much safe for everyday driving or should it only be used at the track?
Any info would be appreciated.

MTBE is what they add to fuels in the winter as an oxygenate. It has been ordered removed from motor fuels because is has been found to be carcinogenic, causes severe headaches, and increases susceptibility to asthma. You might want to think about using some good protective equipment if you choose to use it. Ought to be pretty cheap to buy though, because 10 years ago, refineries were building MTBE production facilities like crazy, and now they have to eliminate it from gasoline.

Just curious.... why do you see "lower BTU" content of MTBE as any sort of benefit, when the whole point of putting fuel into the cylinders is to produce energy.... more BTU's are better. Octane has little to do with energy content.

Use the xylene. Get it from someplace like Sherwin Williams...I got 5 gallons for $35. Just remember to mix in 2oz of Marvel Mystery Oil for every gallon of xylene. And don't mix it at more than a 3:1 ratio.
Been there, done that.
