Help what is broke?

The Valve springs installed on my AFR heads and bolted to my 396 were not to the specs that were ordered! I found this out today after basicly replacing everything fuel and spark related and it didn't cure my problem of loosing power on the top end. Pulled springs to have them checked and wow not what they should be 200# at the seat, 600 open, and coil bind at .560.

When new the power dropped at 5800 now the car will barely rev above 5000. What did these way to strong springs kill in my engine besides the lifters? I think that is a given being that it used to rev to the moon but dropped in power at 5800 now 5000 miles later it wont rev past 5000.

Thanks

Jeff

Re: Help what is broke?

May have tweaked your pushrods if they arent up to par with that kind of spring pressure.

Re: Help what is broke?

Also what kind of camshaft is in the motor (hydraulic, solid)? If its any kind of hydraulic or street roller I would imagine you did some damage to the cam lobes if its a cast core camshaft.

Re: Help what is broke?

The push rods look ok other than some minor scuffing from rubbing the guide plates on a few of them. This is a hydralic set-up its a CC Blower grind 224-236-114lsa with Comp R lifters.

When I replace the lifters do you think I will be able to tell if the cam is damaged?

Thanks in advance

Jeff

Re: Help what is broke?

Update: Lifters are definitly trashed two of them were completly collapsed. I'm sure the rest are in sad shape too. The cam looks OK from what can be seen from the lifter holes it does show some wear but no broken lobes or any thing. Am i missing anything should I be looking at anything else to make sure its ok before throwing in new lifters and springs?

Thanks

Jeff
