Fuel system for stroker motor
Fuel system for stroker motor
I'm building a pretty wild 383 right now and want to make sure I have adequate fueling for it's needs.... Right now all the fuel system is stock. I saw that aeromotive is making a complete fuel system upgrade for the LT1's. So it made me go 'hmmm'.
The motor is a 383 like I said, 12.7:1 compression, AFR 220's getting ported and polished by race prep in CA (race-prep.com) as we speak. Bryan there said they should be in the 340 cfm range once they're finished and have excellent velocity since this will be street driven. Cam Motion solid roller cam. It has somewhere around .670+ lift, 260-270ish duration at .05, and 112 lsa. Induction is through a 58mm Holley, exhaust is Hooker LT's and a true dual setup that I'll be upgrading to a mufflex 4" soon.
Let me know what you think about the fuel system, whether I need to upgrade or not... I probably do, just want to get some opinions.
Thanks
Chuck

Well on my mazda i dont run gas but i run an SX pump with -10 line up to a -10 to -8 reducer then and adapter that is 45 degrees and has npt threads on the one end..I drilled out the fuel rail and tapped it in..You can get the taps from a pluming supply or get a plumber to do it for you..On the return side i run -8 line with another 45 degree adapter back to the tank..I run a paxton efi regulator mounted on the firewall and tehn to the tank..Before the fuel filter you can remove your stock pickup in the tank and remove the pump only..Then cut off the hardline thats for the pump and drill out the hole..You want the pump hardline to be cut flush with the plate of the pickup..Just drill it out to fit in 5/8 hardline and bend the hardline to snake down to the same area where the intank pump would be..Leave enough for the outside of the tank so you can slip on some -10 hose..Use two hose clamps to hold it tight as it wont see pressure so it will be cool like that..If your **** then you can get a 90 degree bulkhead fitting and mount it to the pickups plate and run hardline down into the tank but i dont think its needed..
I dont know about areamotives LT1 setup but im always leary about something like that..Thers always a differnt setup for each car..Mustang guys get beat like this all the time..
I run methanol on the street so i have to buy new lines and my pump runs hotter than it would with gas..Ive heard that these pumps dont like unleaded gas like they hate methanol..Something to look into..Probally better off with a weldon but they are loud as all hell on a friday night orgy..My SX pump was free from some guys that had a stang shop next to my fab shop in philly..

Shweeet, repsonse from the guys up north themselves. I'll go for that....
Anyone have a comment about the stock fuel lines? Should I upgrade them or will I be fine? I figure I'll get the Racetronix setup, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and bigger injectors...
Thanks
