Post F.A.S.T. Sequential EFI without opti?

how do you make this work? i understand with a crank tigger and a distributor you can sort the spark out through the computer, and you can use the crank trigger to fire the injectors on a batch fire system, but how can you tell the computer which fuel injector to fire on a sequential setup?

You need a cam position sensor. Do a "search".... there's a guy posting here running a FAST + eDIST, with a crank trigger, an MSD magnetic sensor welded into the timing cover, and 8 LS1 coils.

Make that two.

MSD's cam sync stub is apparently not ready for prime time (although they've been advertising the system in magazines for the last several months) and the only other option that I know of is Motec's cam sync stub ($629) plus a Motec Hall sensor, which is another $150, roughly. The cheaper option is to have the front cover modified for a magentic cam trigger to provide the cam sync signal to the eDist module.

For what reson do you need sequential? yes the idea sounds nice but I'v seen batch systems make the same or more power on the dyno. I just don't see it being worth the added cost.

Better gas mileage?

We went with a batch fire SEFI-8LO on my engine, and it doesn't seem to have held it back any.

SEFI is better primarily for emissions. Raw power doesn't really have a preference.

The guys at Second Street Speed were able to show me some interesting effects of injector timing on sequential injector FI setups. The MoTeC allows variable injector timing, using "end of event" tables vs. rpm. If you can get the injectors large enough that they are not firing all the time at max HP, you can get some interesting gains with injector timing adjustments. On the other hand, if you are running the injectors at very high duty cycle, there is really no significant difference between batch and sequential.

Jimlab,

Dean is using an MSD cam sync. Why can't you get one for your set up?
Its threaded into the timing cover, the only thing welded on Deans cover is the opti hole and the waterpump hole.

The cam sync isn't the problem, and that's exactly what we're using now (modified front cover). The problem is getting one of MSD's new cam sync stubs (distributor hole mount) which have been advertised, but apparently aren't available yet.

Mark spent a good 30 minutes on the phone the other day trying to get MSD to cough one up with no luck.

If you have the front cover modified, why do you want the distributor looking one in the back?

I don't. It's one or the other, not both. I already have a billet stub in the back which drives the oil pump. It would have been easier to replace it with a cam sync stub with a Hall sensor instead of going to the trouble of having the front cover modified and disassembling the front of the engine.
