exaust tubing/extensions and TQ

Engine will be done soon and I will start tuning etc.

now coming off of the headers should I run extensions or pipes or nothing? I will not need extensions for evacs anymore as I will be running a vac. pump.

So my question is adding piping or extensions to the collector will it change my tq or powerband at all? Not sure how true this is b/c my dad told me this and he has not raced in 25 years.

Paint extensions with spray paint black and run it.....wherever the last spot is it burns the paint cut it off at that point. Now I will be doing this on a dyno so how should I do it? Or is it a waste of time, just leave the headers open.

This is a huge solid roller 383, o.k. heads, light bottom end, vac, pump, low tension rings, Race only car. 450 converter(probly go to a 5500) Any help is much needed.....I'm in new territory at this point

I was always under the impression that the collectors themselves needed to be tuned to the right length and then after that further exhaust was unnecessary. I'm probably not the best source so let's hear what the real racers have to say.

The paint thing is a joke, don't do that.

Go pick up PipeMax, throw your numbers in that and then make the collector length that long.

I think you should read this article. It has some good info. Also look into Circle Track as well.

I think I'm going to have to maybe adjust my collector length on my project car, cause mines only 9.5 inches, lol.

No exhaust hunh? I went with 3.5 inch pipe and a set of 2 chamber flowmasters but I drive mine on the street a very little bit.I ran it a couple times at the track with open headers and I just couldnt stand it. Running 9's N/A with an exhaust system embarrases the full on race cars though.

More accurate than any recirculated advice and old wives tales floating around on the internet. Do a google search for MaxraceSoftware. Larry sells it through his website there.
