Engine block strenght: L98 vs. LT1
I´ve seen statements like the LT1 block can take almost 1000 hp´s without failure and a number of people like Rich K. with really high HP applications are using the LT1 block.
I´m planning for a blown 381 using my old L98 (Corvette -90) as the base and targeting approx 550 rwhp.
The questions is if the L98 block in any major way differs from the LT1 block with respect to strength. Do they differ a lot in weight, internal dimensions, wall thicknesses, core design etc etc??

Are the differences related to the reverse cooling or did GM also change other things (in the block casting) since the LT1 is more hi revving and about 50 more hp´s than the L98?
I recall having seen comments about the LT1 block being more sturdy than the general "gen 1" sbc block?

The L98 or 1 piece rear main seal block will hold up to 550rwhp Goran.
One more thing for you the Dart Pro 1's aren't going to be realased till mid year at the earliest and they are phasing them in as a moving change, not like the Iron versions.

Don't know about the LT-1 block but the L-98 block (2 bolt mains and all!) I've pushed somewhere past 500 at the crank without ever even considering that the block might be too weak. And I'm talking about a nitrous motor in a modest RPM range, not a high-winding N/A combo (wich is a completely different set of stresses on the bottom end).
Ace- you're talking about the "platinum" versions of the Pro 1s, to match the "platinum" Iron Eagles that came out recently?
