my mistake, its more like $8k, for a 600hp small block.

definetly not an LTX motor though!

so what is your point? When we say BBC putting out 500+ hp EASY we don't mean fwhp guesstimations we are talking about rwhp numbers....how many LT1/LS1's can do that for under 2 grand to the rear wheels?

that price even included the Junk yard LT1 I am running($400. Heads cost me $800. Cam was $100. CSI Pump $130. Rockers $80. 58MM TB $50. The rest was already in place or traded for stuff off the car. NOS kit was free and bottle was from a car I had in the 80s. We have yet to dyno with the N2O as I have not installed the 28# injectors I have($80 BTW).

I do my best NOT to waste money

tunning has brought the RWHP over 400 now and you are doing your math wrong(as most do). You must work backwards from your FWHP level.

500 x .8 = 400

Those number are UN-locked T/C BTW I lost 8RWHPhp going to the 12 bolt.

IF you already have a SBC in your car it cost more to install a BBC. fact. you keep quoting the price for the motor it self. Now add in all the Accessory stuff and tack another $1k or so on your price.

I priced out many options before deciding to stay with my LT1. It took a good machinest to make up my mind

Like I said before it is a choice thing. Based on the facts and my budget I choose to stick it out with what I got

BTW WE go to the dyno all the time with guys that have a hard time making the numbers you say are a dime a dozen with big blocks. they always hit tons of TQ but HP is NOT always a given

I do nto know enough people with BBC stuff to get the deals I would need to and then to add the EFI I want would drive cost out of my range. I figured it would take $12k yp $18k to build the BBC I wanted and I will be well under $10K to make the power I need with what I now have.

Parts I have so far.
4340 Non twist crank $550
'H' Beam rods $300(actually free, I traded work)
Wisco Coated pistons for 18/23* heads $580
Brodix -18 Heads...New $800
Hogans Intake...Traded free LT4 stuff and $500
spare LT1 block I picked up for $50

I have a ways to go but you never know

Like I said a BB is good for 2-3% over a SB all things being equal. I am willing to give up that 2-3% for the price I am going to pay this time around.

Now if I was to start from scratch with nothing but an old car to be a racer I would do a BB in a hot flash. That is just not the case this time around

I am not trying to change your mind by any means. It just does not always cost as much as people think. I am sure for some people who have BBs laying around every where it is much cheaper for them to do that

Later all!

If you are putting a big block in a 4th gen, you have a number to shoot for. I saw a Black 4th gen in Illinois running consistent 8.10's at 170mph.

Yup. Pretty consistent bottom 10s and good short times...on drag radials.

Not too shabby for a granny launch.

Hell, He made a pass Sun. morning, left on a 200 shot and ran a 9.55 @ 145 mph on drag radials..... I think the radials have A LOT more in them....

9.55 on a 200 shot and a BBC? I thought you should be on the 8s with that... or am I mistaken??? Aren't they getting 9.50s with a 383 and a YS-trim???

Its true there is a lot of money, but still...

On that video it didn't look like he was pushing it that hard and still he made the 10.92 time, but... I think its a bit dissapointing after the numbers he put in with his old TT...

yeah, 10.9 with a 130+ trap speed........that definetly had to be an easy run, cause thats 9 sec traps with the right traction.

that video was way weak. that was the first pass ever, actually the first time I ever floored it, I tried at the house but ran out of gas.. It'll go 9's on motor easy. we went 10.40's on motor with a 1.6 60'- the converter is too tight for a good motor pass.

I know it was way weak.. it looked like you didn't want to break it or something... I know.. been there done that... And its perfectly acceptable, although the 1.6 60' are nice, they looked like a lot more. That is not the point.. the point is that although the car can do LOTS more I still think its a bit "consfusing" should I say, on the decision of the BBC when you have had very good luck with the TT and SBC regarding the 9.55 with a 200 shot, although Im not sure the size of your engine, shouldn't you be there NA? Although that is what Jon Moss did with a 9.3L done by GM, so its not fair to compare... But maybe a high 9s?

Dont know...

Nice setup the one on your TT on GMHTP

Care to go into your setup?

it was the first time out. cut me a little slack, if we had been racing it all year and that was all we could get out of it, then give me ****. The motor had been running for about 4 days before the shootout and the car never left the garage until the day we loaded it in the trailer. I didn't expect it to run 136mph NA, that was a bonus.
It's a 540" gen VI big block with 10.5:1 compression (pump gas motor), TH400, 9", stock style suspension.

the mph is indicative of 9 second passes, but the converter is too tight to really work well naturally aspirated. the converter was pretty tight on a 200 shot, so we're going up

laterz
