Dart's, but thanks!

As Stehpen said, an open plenum isn't the most street friendly style of manifold. Better with EFI than with a carb, however.

Re: Couple BBC conversion questions

We had a vic jr. on the 540. It's a nice all around intake.

I've also got a single plane oval port intake that's already been converted to EFI, with fuel rails and injectors for sale, if your interested.. Around $400 with injectors.. price a conversion....

The stock tach will run off the coil, but it's too inaccurate to rely on.

question What about making the stock speedometer work with a transmission that doesn't have a speedometer provisions??? We were invited to race in the "World Street Race", but one of the stipulations is that you have a working speedo.. Right now I have the stock cluster with all the gauges working except the speedometer. The Dedenbear case doesn't have provisions for a speedo, so I may need a reluctor and pickup on the driveshaft or something of the likes.. Thoughts???

After test fitting a few high rise single plane intakes on a local car I can see where a good BBC intake will have some issues with the cowl and possibly the wiper ties. Nothing a little creativity can't solve...
Steve...
Hey SARKY long time no drink... We looked at the BMR Kmember when Brady and I were building my BBC 4th gen. We just didn't feel it was going to be "beefy" enough for the kind of power we were going to put on it.
Don't sweat the wiper issue, you'll be able to keep them. Now you will have to do some surgery on the cowl. As long as you have beer anything is possible....

Re: Couple BBC conversion questions

You should be able to do ~650 hp ~570 lbs-ft easy with a 454, smaller rectangular port heads and a hydraulic roller cam. Not tough at all. The first combination I put together for my 68' Camaro was a 468 with Dart 320 heads, 454R intake and a mild hydraulic (252@.050) nothing special. 655 hp and 571 lbs-ft of torque (from memory but that's close)... very drivable.

Before you consider the dual plane... this "mild" engine made close to 500 lbs-ft at 3000rpm. Now we're talking about a street-car/radial-tire setup.... you may not want too much more torque. Just depends on the rest of your setup. Food for thought.

500 ft lbs would be pretty wild on the street, nice for the strip though. I will plan on driving the car quite a bit on the street so maybe a mild single plane would be better to bring that torque curve down a bit. Any thoughts more thoughts on this?

Depends on the head though. Exhaust ports vary (i.e. Brodix) on heads.

Re: Couple BBC conversion questions

Thanks guys. Just some upgraded Vortec heads, nothing special. Main concern was the clearance around the steering shaft.

So did you all use a motor plate? Would an lt1 6spd work with a BB, anyone?

No, a PA k-member. these were race cars. the bmr has the poly motor mount things, or at least it did back when these cars were built.
