I got a quote from an un-named vendor (non-supporting, PM me if you want the info), $485 to convert SBC heads to reverse flow cooling. My question is besides the cooling part, what else would need to be done to slap them on an LT1?

To be more specific, I was looking at the Brodix 18x heads....they flow insane out of the box and are only $19xx. Would there be any other issues as far as pushrod/lifter location and whatnot?

 

You should have them ported... i've seen them out of the box and they still need work IMHO.

You still need pistons, intake and headers that fit them.

The vendor that is doing this...have they ever welded on a brodix before? Is heat treating involved in the price?

IMO, for that money, I would look at another solution. What is your goal?

 

They would be going on a fresh build so pistons wouldn't be a problem. Headers.....ugh.

Meh, it was just an idea I was kicking around. I guess I'll go with the TFS LT1 heads like I originally planned.

That is the GOOD part about the 18x, you can use regular lifters and rockers and save BIG money. Even can run a hyd.roller if you want to.

 

Lemmon's can make ya a set of headers w/o the car even being there for those heads. for about 1K or so.. and they've been said to perform really well.. Dennis at Airflow Development is handling my All Pro's.. Give him a call.. He's well versed on the conversion and can get ya goin in the right direction...

 

Most of the S/S guys swear by the lemmons, have seen nothing but good. Georgie can make you a set also or Stahl, this is the least of your worries.

I have had numerous sets of brodix heads in for conversion and repair. It is kinda like welding in thin air. Takes mucho time to get them to seal and make them hard again.

If it is a fresh build, you have to buy valvetrain anyways. If it is full-tilt killer, I would not settle for anything less than the 15 degree GM/Edelbrock design.

If it is a street car, you can't hardly beat a good set of GM lt4's done the right way, or an old set of canfield's if you can find them (I think Baxter owns every set that has been made? atleast thats what canfield says). The TFS heads have a decent port, but the chamber has much to be desired (Sorry TFS).
