conversion to msd distributor(wiring)

i'm switching my motor over to msd distributor - crank trigger.
i sent my FAST unit back for the conversion. also i should note that i have the harness adapter form white racing to keep my factory harness.
question is : there are two wires coming from the distributor and two coming from the crank trigger. i feel certain one set must plug into my msd 6btm box but which one and what about the other.
keep in mind i am one step below a moron when it comes to wiring so type very slow.
thanks

Do you have a Bank to Bank system or Sequential?

If you have a sequencial then you need to run a crank trigger off the balancer and use the pick up in the distributor for the cam sync. In the distributor there will be a wheel with 8 prongs sticking out you need to cut 7 of them off so that it only sees the number 1.

If you have a bank to bank and your using the pick up in the distributor for the crank trigger, then you need to send those wires off the distributor to the FAST unit, you also need to send the points wire from the ignition box to the FAST unit.

X3 is the points wire
A3 is crank +
B3 is crank -

I also put a distributor in my car.

so with the bank to bank, which is what i have, are you saying i don't need a crank trigger?
what if i already mounted a crank trigger on it? can i use it?
how do you know which is X,A, & B? . i don't have my FAST unit with me are they marked?

You can use the crank trigger.

Which distributor do you have? I use the MSD# 8489.

Your harness from White Racing probably won't have the crank tirgger connector on it, you'll have to wire that yourself. Rob told you the pinout for the crank trigger, I think it's A3 and B3.

So it's really pretty simple, wire from the crank trigger to the FAST (twisted pair, shielded). then wire the points wire from the FAST to the MSD box. (white wire). Hook up the coil and go. With your crank trigger, the ONLY thing connecting to the distributor is the coil wire.

1 more thing, you will need to set the crank trigger pickup over a magnet at 50* BTDC, then in C-com (under "system configuration") set the "Crank Ref. Angle (*BTDC)" to 50.

here is a pic with the pinout labled, near the bottom.

good luck!

Thats fine if your running a crank trigger mounted on the balancer.
only thing you need to wire on the distributor is the sparkplugs and the wire to the coil. thats it.
You probably have a distributor with a little wire harness coming out the bottom of it, you don't need to use that.

Also not sure if you know or not but you need to take the distributor apart and lock the timing advance, you don't want it to advance the timing, you'd be scratching your head when you went to tune the car.

thanks,
yes i did lock the advance.
one more question. i had to mount my pickup on the drivers side of the block and with the motor at 50 deg. BTDC i can't reach a magnet. is there another procedure i can use or do i need to machine a new brkt.?

I don't know what the gm part number would be?

I got some from Power and Signal Group as a sample also.
They have a part number 12103881 which looks like a GM part number also so that might be it. Also P&SG used to be a delphi division. http://www.powerandsignal.com is the website i got some samples from but it took a couple months for me to get them.
