Carbing my 383 LT1
Carbing my 383 LT1
Hey guys, i still havent run my recently built 383 that i planned on injecting, now i have decided to go carbed, what is entailed in carbing this motor, what size carb do i need, i think the only intake is the gmpp, and will the disconnecting of all the motor sensors and connections disrupt the use of thge rest of the car through the computer. Alsodo i need to go with a different style fuel lline. I just need some help from you guys, thanks
carb
Ibeleave it is a little more complicated than just mountin the intake and carb and running the fuel line
1.fuel pump
2.dont know if you can run the opti or if you must go with a conventional distribitor
3.if your unhook the sensors you are going to need someway to control the fans
4.not sure about speedo and tach
hope this might help ,unless this is a radical 383(high lift, high rpm,big compresion) leave it on the factory computer send to pcm for less and let him put a tune on it. I think you will be happier and it will be easier on the pocketbook with the saved fuel milage

Well the only good manifold options are converted small block intakes. Something like a Vic Jr or another Single Plane IF you want to make it more of a race motor. Things like the RPM Air gap are a good option for a street car.
Carb size depends on the power and RPM demands.... Personally I would look at the Demon 850 Annular Vaccum Secondary Carb. If you plan on the 450+ range it's a great street carb.
On the distributor end you could stay with the opti or go with a good distributor. Obviously you are going to need to tell the computer what's going on or trick it to think that everything is ok because it's not sending anything to the fuel injectors if you want to run the opti also it's just there to control the ignition so you will need some of those sensors bolted up to run that.
On top of that cam choice will be different vs a LT1 intake so you have to throw that into the mix.
Might not be the best way to go for you..
