Can someone explain the differences of Solid roller, and hydraulic motors for me????
Cant find this anywhere.
I want to build a 396 in the next few months but i know so little about Solid roller and hydraulic motors i dont know which would better suit me. Nor what the differences between the two are. How they function, make their power, efficiency, sound, reliability and so on.
Someone just please educate me!
I want to do a 396 NA and dont know really how to start.

I've given some info about this over in LT1 Tech over the last few weeks.
Basically you'll need a:
a solid roller- cam, lifters, springs, locks, retainers, and longer pushrods (usually 7.8" unless you use a longer valve).
A solid roller will in general make more power than a hyd roller. It can have steeper ramps than a hyd because of the lifters and springs that are used. A solid roller will drive better too, i had no cam surge at all with my large solid roller without tuning.
You will have to adjust valve lash every few thousand miles, usually 3-4, whereas with hyd you dont have to. And with a solid you will have to replace the springs probably once a year, depending on how much the car is driven.
Also I am probably putting my solid roller setup for sale, so if your interested
But this would fit better in LT1 Tech, so i'll move it there.
Thanks.
