Cam Question

Well I went speed inc to pick up a 230/236 for my new 383 stroker to go home and find out that they gave me the right duration but lift with 1.6rrs is gonna be .602 instead of the .56x I was expecting so Im thinking to myself hmm maybe ill just take the extra lift...what Im wondering is if im gonna have issues with this much lift.
Specs are as follows
APE 383 Stroker with Forged Diamond pistons w/ I believe -4 reliefs?
Eagle Forged Rods and eagle crank
4Bolt Splayed Callies
(Hydraulic Roller) 230/236 114lsa .602/.602
Stock length Hardened comp Pushrods/Comp "R" Lifters
Heads just cut for cleaning purposes nothing crazy....
150 Shot of TNT Fun
If this Shouldnt Be a problem what springs Do you guys recommend

Re: Cam Question

try combination motorsports, i know they do some high lift stuff and have some good 2x valvesprings + damper that are supposedly good to .640 lift...

Id worry about lifter and pushrods. 1 peice chromoly might be a good ally. the springs certainly wont have the same life expectancy.

Once lift = 1/4 of the valve, it wont much matter if you have more. sure you'll gain if the heads dont do anything silly, but ehh- not enough to justify on a street car imho, which is why I am assuming you have the wider lobe seperation? Or will you be using a lot of nitrous?

Re: Cam Question

That cam isn't what I would pick for optimizing nitrous usage. You need a bigger split between the intake and exhaust duration and maybe a bit less LSA. The lift is also quite a bit more than essentially stock heads need. Especailly on the exhaust side, a lot of that lift will be "wasted". Once lifts get to the 0.600" range you really need top notch springs and other valve train parts to get any decent life out them in a street environment. I think you need a different cam.

Re: Cam Question

Depends on the valve springs really. Your not going to have any P to V issues is what it looks like so I wouldn't be to concerned about that, i'd worry more about the valve springs being right for the cam.

I agree that the cam's probably not right for the setup like Rich said.

Yes, it seems like its almost an NA cam (durration) and almost a boosted cam (lobe seperation) but doesn't look like it will do either well
