buying a forged shortblock how can I tell...?

Buying a 355 forged shortblock for my 67 camaro. The guy said it has forged internals - how can I tell if the pistons really are forged? Is there a number I should look for ..or???

See if he has reciepts for the parts or maybe contact the place that built the motor...unless he built it himself.

Get someone who knows engines to look at the shortblock with the pan off. He should be able to indentify the parts. Pistons, rods, and cranks are very easy to tell forged from cast. Buy your expert a bunch of beers AFTER he renders the verdict (which ever way it goes). I haven't found many engine builders that would pass up such a deal.

Hell I wouldn't even need the beers. If you know what you are looking for it's pretty easy to tell.

and yet ..notice bret didn't say he'd turn them down.

but yeah its relatively easy to tell with a visual inspection. you may even be able to look up how to do it yourself with google, its really not that hard.
