Bronze or iron distributor gear
Bronze or iron distributor gear
I heard that bronze oil pump drive gears don't hold up with high volume oil pumps. Is this correct? I have a new #8513 MSD oil pump drive with a bronze gear driving a Melling HV155, and just want to make sure I don't have any problems with it. Any body know? Thanks.

Re: Bronze or iron distributor gear
They dont hold up as long..Truthfully it wont do any harm when it goes out..The worst that has happened to me is that it got all chewed up and left me stranded for a few till i could get the trailer to me..If your cam requires a bronze gear then you really have no choice..Your other option is to run the iron gera and have iron chips killing your insides..Bronze gears are designed to wear out because of the cam being made from steel at the oil pump drive..

You are the man. I should have just emailed you to begin with.
If I call Crower is there a certain part number to ask for? I know there is a certain size opening that is needed.
How long do these gears normally last?
Thank you,
Tom

Talk to Dave Crower and he will plumb you up on which one.You will have to have the shaft size to get the right one.
I have run them better than 2 yrs and still good.
