Bret, How did you get the lt1 block to live at 1000 hp. What do you think about block filler??

Re: Block Strength, Dart vs. GM

When I do anything over 700hp I do a half fill, 4 bolt main caps with a flat register and splayed outers.

The guys who have gone 1,000hp plus do it with turbos and blowers, but not always block filler.

I had a customer with a N2O setup that didn't have filler but gave up the ghost at 1,100hp+... then the block split in two. I just gave him the top end, the bottom end was a 4 bolt setup, non fill, Callies crank and rods.

I run block filler, out of three 1000+ RWHP LT1 motors, it has never effected cooling one bit. Never had a block itself issue.

Re: Block Strength, Dart vs. GM

I split two LT1 blocks(both were 3/4 filled and I had no cooling issues) on a 36 jet. Car was running in the low 160's in the quater at 3300lbs. I now have a Little "M" Dart block and have had the car up to almost 170mph(trap speed) with no problems. I have never owned a Bowtie but I must say I am very happy with my Dart block. I can burn up a slug and deglaze it and put it back together with no problems. My production blocks were always out being remachined for either bore or flex issues.

Good luck with the project

Vince

If you have the money BUY the DART. IF you do not hurt the block you can rebuild the motor over and over and over again.

MIN. Cylinderwall thickness .275"@4.185 "bore

Maximum Bore and Stroke Reccomended 4.185"x3.875"

I have wrenched on this block brand new from Dart. It is a wicked block! You can't go wrong with it. I don't know much about the Bowtie and I cannot give you any help on that end.

If you want to ask questions to a race team that uses the Dart block in a street car go to the website in my Sig. Wannaberacing.com. The project is Crower Power.

Re: Block Strength, Dart vs. GM

I see all this talk about the bowtie blocks and the dart blocks, but what about the World Motown blocks? I am about to buy a block this week and was going to buy the Motown, but is there any reason as to why I shouldn't? Thanks guys and sorry about the hi-jack. I am looking to be in the ~1500 fwhp range when it's all said and done.

Re: Block Strength, Dart vs. GM

Motown block is also a very good block. I'd still recommend that over a Bowtie

Dart and Bowtie I would put on the same plane. The CNC Bowtie does have some odd points to it, but it's extremely well machined.

If you're talking about the CNC'd Bowtie = SB2.2 block from GM. NOT AS STRONG. I've seen more then plenty of them crack in the cylinder walls at the middle head bolts. Very common, this around 1800-2000 FWHP. Similar problem on 400 blocks. Now the GM Rocket Block is a lot lot stronger and I would put that up with the Dart and World blocks.

Funny, cause the Rocket block is made by Dart.

Yeah that's why I'd put a Rocket block up there with a Dart block, but not a Bowtie

I know the Dart Iron Eagle and the Rocket block are identical (less casting numbers), I've owned them both- Is the Motown block cast at the same foundry, making it the same as a Little M?

My path moving forward is with the #184 SB2 block.
