Big Decision To Make

Okay guys this going to be fairly long but bear with me. I could realy use some help. I am questioning whether I should build a drag car or not because I am in college and funds are somewhat low. Here goes
Car:Chevy 2 (I think 66) tubbed, four link, 33x19.5 Mickeys, 12 bolt shortened 4:56 gears, th350 and lots of extra parts $2800
Motor:70's 4 bolt, Dart Iron eagles, possibly pro ones (215cc intake runner?) <8.5:1 compression, 3.75 stroke forged, h-beams both eagle. mechanical flat tappet not sure on lift, or duration? As much stuff off of ebay as possible $$$??
Fuel: AEM non plug and play, victor jr. intake, rob third gen engine of map, injectors(honed)?, tps?
Forced induction system: Holset HX-50 or 55, Air water IC (possible alky injection).
Probably forgot some things but that is a pretty good summary. Now goals. I would like to have a high 8 sec capable car (so 900hp?) and spend no more than 10K, now before you schoff. I am capable of fabricating nearly everything myself so I think I might be able to do it. (target weight <2700lbs) It will see some street action but to me streetable can be fairly crude. This is my first drag car so I would start out slow and work into faster times. I realize 8 sec et is really fast so that is a long term goal and I dont want to change my system a bunch more to get there. Feel free to chime in on anything cam, heads, turbo, injectors. I hope this belongs in advanced tech Thanks for any help in advance guys.

hold it right there.

Trust me man, there will be plenty of time for drag cars, trailer queens, and muscle cars after the diploma. I normally would never say "don't build-up the car", but even my auto-weakness has to take a side-seat to education and understanding just how much money, time, and focus it takes. A project car is just a distraction you don't need.

Hell, my rides' keeping me from finishing my BioChem degree, and originally I was just gonna "take 1 year off"... now it's 5. Granted, I'm a Senior and I'll head back in the fall, and yes I REALLY like my ride... but education is how you get the bucks. The average person will, on average, rise to a level of education they've obtained. And belive it or not... going back is VERY tough. Don't risk the next 5 years of your life for a car man, it just isn't worth it. (I imagine most of the "mature" people here will agree )
