balancer/harmonic dampner talk...

Whats the difference between a balancer and dampner? What the one to get for LT1 cars? Is it a case of"if you cant afford the ATI or Fluidampner, the stocker i just as good as any of the other lower price ones"

What about the $210 Jegs one that just came out similair to one from a company in AUstralia? Under what circumstances would an aftermarket one help keep a motor togther to make it worth while? Stock ones hold on cars turnign 6000 rpm but what about cast crank cars runninn 6500?

They're all harmonic dampeners. Calling them "balancers" is just one of those terms that caught on in the hotrod world and stuck, although it doesn't really accurately describe the function of the device.

It's job is to DAMPEN the torsional vibrations that go through the crank while the engine is running. Like having a big shock absorber on the crank. Your engine will run without one, but not for long- vibrations (some that you can feel and some you can't) will quickly tear the motor apart.

how fast are you planning on going? Do you need the sfi approved dampner?

Ati is for cars generally that spin over 7k and the fluidampner one is for under 7k.

I have never studdied the jegs one so don't know. I got the mine from summit (fluiddampner)
