anyone running 6.125" rods on an LT1 383?

i want to build a 383 for my car using the 6.125" rods to get a better rod/stroke ratio. i am looking to have an 11:1 comp ratio. anyone running a set up like this? if so, what pistons are you running?

That would leave you with a real short piston and a rist pin in the ring lands

I've got 5.85's on my 3.75" stroke 381, and the wrist pin is already well into the oil ring, necessitating ring rail spacers. Adding another 0.275" to the rod length would seem to put the pin way too high in the ring pack. I think the whole issue of rod/stroke length had been blown out of proportion. If you do a search here on Advanced Tech, I think you will find numerous comments to support this position.

I agree with Fred. I wouldn't go any longer than a 6.0" rod on a 3.75" stroke. Puts the wrist pin too far up in the piston, crown thickness can suffer due to clearances with the rod, and the skirt is very short, which can induce piston rock, not to mention the ring packaging problems as Fred stated.

There are also tons of pistons on the shelf to choose from with a 6.0" rod on a 383.

Good luck.

who offers pistons for a 6" rod 383? can you guys recomend any? im looking for a decent forged piston, with out spending a fortune. do i need to run special pistons in my LT1, or will a standard SBC piston work? thanks for all the help guys.

wiseco and je have shelf pistons with the proper compression height.

Lots of people

Gen I and Gen II engines can use the same pistons as long as they are made for 23 deg heads.

SRP will probably be your best bet. if you stick with a 5.7" rod, you can run TRWs.. don't think they make one for a 6" rod tho.

FYI, my new 1000hp combo has 5.7 rods and a 3.750 stroke.. i wanted plenty of ring land up there
