Im in the process of building a 421, sbc for my IROC, and I had originally planned to run MoTown 220 iron heads, but lately Ive been leaning more towards aluminum so it would be easier for me to run higher compression. Im going to be using race gas anyway, but I think aluminum would just be a better bet.
Anyway as I was looking for ones that I could afford I stumbled upon the Canfield heads that have 220 cc intake runners, and 65 cc cumbustion chambers which is about right where I wanna be. And best of all it looks like I can afford them. If I buy them assembled they come with 2.05 intakes and roller springs. They say I have to use off-set rockers but as I havent bought rockers yet that doesnt bother me.
I was just wondering since they seem to be sustantially cheaper than other realative aluiminu heads, if they were good. Any feedback from people who have used them before would be apreciated. Also how big is the advantage of buying the ones with CNC chambers instead of the as-cast chambers?

Darth,
Check out my website link below. We put these heads on a 406 SBC. Very good head. Order the CNC chambers. Very good quality. Deck might be a little thin for nitrous or blower applications, but they're fine in a N/A application. Good luck.

Ok cool. Im building a motor with a 400 block,so I couldnt use too much Nitrous, but you think they would be ok for a smallish nitrous shot say 100-150?
Looks good by the way. You dont happen to have any HP/torque specs for that do ya?

you check out proaction heads? can get a set of aluminum 50cc chamber, 220cc runner, for $750 from dyno-flo.com. Get you about 13.5:1 comp with good valve reliefs. I think you cna have em assembled with my some good hardware (rockers, studs, severe duty valves, springs) or $450 from them. check em out, and give them a call. Good ppl.

with 50cc chambers and 421 cubic inches the compression ratio would actualy be more like 14.7 :1 Thats a bit much, 60-64 I think would be better.
Ive been looking at the proaction heads, too. And Some Aluminum Dart heads. Ive just only found the Canfield heads, in one catalog so I havent found much info on them. The other brands offer more info. So I thought I would ask on here about them.
