Any Trans Experts.. I Have Symptoms

Alright i posted yesterday about my clutch, i wont go through the story again but just the symptoms. when car is off it goes into all gears (trans is ok :-)) but when it is running it wont go into any although it is trying. someone told me today that my release bearing is gone, but i just replaced that. could it possibly be my slave cylinder shot. the clutch isnt disengaging (seperating). so either it is my clutch fork or throwout bearing, but if they went i would have no spring to my clutch, clutch feels normal when on and off it just wont shift into any gear, and if you do get it in. trust me its not a pretty sound. so im hoping for the slave or master cylinder so i dont have to pull the trans. give me any advice you can, email me if i dont respond, i gotta go pick up my loner car. THANKS FOR THE HELP

Not sure what the problem is here..... you have posted the same question 6 times in two days, 4 times on LT1 Tech, and now twice on Advanced Tech, in spite of the fact that the first post was moved.

You posted the identical question 4 times in 20 minutes:

4-2-2003 2:43pm
4-2-2003 2:46pm
4-2-2003 3:00pm
4-2-2003 3:03pm

That's not the way to do it. Post it once, and let the repsonses build up under one post. That way, everyone who responds can see what the last person said, add to that thought, or post a new one.... there's no point in saturating the boards with identical posts, as you are quickly finding out.

Locking.

Let me ask a dumb question...

Have you gotten under the car and looked with a helper actuating the clutch? Have you take the inspection cover off? Any leaks under the car?? I think that would be a good starting point.

Thumbs up

to be honest i havent had a chance, i had work the day it broke down, and a test today. i will be under it on sunday once i figure out how to get it here. there are no serious visible leaks and the fluid level is normal in the clutch master cylinder. I am thinking the cylinder failed because if it was a clutch fork or throwout bearing i would have lots of freeplay in my pedal correct.. pressure is still the same which tells me that it could be the slave cylinder. also car shifts fine off, once i turn it on, forget about it. please let me know what you think, i have to go to work now but ill be sure to check back at about 630.. thanks for the help injuneer

Without seeing anything, there's no reason to make guesses. I say get under that car and see whats working and whats not, then you'll either see whats wrong, or take the next step in diagnosis.

If you want to start throwing parts at it, I would throw a slave/Mastercylinder assembly at it first.

When I replaced mine it made a big difference in how the clutch would release and the feeling during shifts.

What happens if you pump the clutch pedal like 30 times and then try to put it into gear, any difference?

hwo fresh is the transmission fluid? That stuff breaks down. A friend had very similar symptoms. He couldn't get the car into gear, had to dog shift it half the time when it was moving, etc. The clutch pedal felt fine. He changed fluid (the old stuff looked REALLY bad) and it slowly got better. After 500 miles, it felt like new again. He changed the fluid again and it hasn't had a problem since.

back

hey, its my first time back since friday night. we now have a few inches of snow so that will delay getting under it by a few more days... the fluid in the trans i just changed two weeks ago. but i am considering doing the master/slave setup because the shop it is at is trying to rip me and tell me i need a new clutch... the one i changed over the winter and wanna charge 375 to drop the trans. so before this week is over it will be parked in the driveway. i pumped it up a bunch of times and it still didnt really wnat to go in. i can get it in with the car running sometimes but not others. there was a bit of fluid on the side of my trans that i dont believe was there before. the mechanic pointed it out, could that be a line for the clutch fluid? im going to get the car up asap and check for leaks when the clutch is working, i will repost back once i get a chance to do so. if you guys have any feedback or other ideas let me know thanks for the help!
