afr 227

Have any of you guys messed with a set of 227's. I was looking for a set of 220's but was only able to find a set of 227's instock anyware. My questions is what is the best way to get the pushrod to clear the intake port? I talked to 2 differnt people at afr and 1 said to use a .050 offset hartland sharp intake rocker and regular solid roller lifter and the other said to use a .150 to .180 offset roller lifter and the standard rocker arm. I would like to know what would be best and most durable. Not looking to rig it. I want it to be right the first time and if I need to get new rockers or lifters so be it.I currently have a brand new set of crower 1.65 rockers but I will buy the other if it would be best. Would like some of your input on this. This will be going on my aready built shortblock, 6" 383 wiesco flat tops, solid roller 244 252 .626 .601 112 with 0 deckheight, 13/4 headers 3in exhaust with x pipe and a HVH Brodix Hv 1000 manifold wihan AED carb. Would these heads be to big? the car has a t-56 and I have good bottom end components and am planning on spinning it. Looking to make 450 hp to the tires with over 400 in torque and run low 7's in the 8th and mid 6's with 175 shot. Any feedback from the Gods would be very appreciated. Thanks for looking

I have no pushrod clearance issues with the 227's (using non-SA Pro Magnums). However, 2 of the intake rockers hang a little bit off the valves. The non-ghetto approach would be to replace those 2 with offset rockers, but so far I've run it for ~4000 miles with no problems.

Hey Runriot, You did not need any offset stuff? Did you use the Isky adjustable guide plates or did you use the ones AFR provides? Did you have to grind the intake port alittle to fit the pushrod?Well I will find out what I will need very soon. My heads will be here on WED. So I can mock everything up next weekend. I just did not know if I should get my lifters or rockerarms coming so I can get it all mocked up right so I can check pushrod lenght. what size motor are those on? Do you have any Power #'s yet? Thanks for your reply

Only "offset" stuff I have is the offset stud girdles, which are just for stability. I'm using the AFR guide plates. I got the heads used, so I don't know whether the previous owner had to grind anything or not.

I made 427@6135 SAE on a 396/A4 with a 236/242/112 HR. Some flow #'s were: .500 286/212, .600 310/226. Flowbench predicted peak HP at 7700RPM, so these heads are probably overkill for me, but I didn't want to feel like they were a limitation!

BTW... there are 2 part numbers for LT4 intake gaskets. Make sure you get the HP version (part# has a 777 in it) as the regular LT4 gasket has ports that are too small. The HP's only come 1 in a package for some reason (even though it's called a "kit"). Anyway, I also had to modify the gaskets by drilling holes and moving the locating pins... otherwise it was overhanging the top of the port by about 1/8", which I didn't discover until recently.

AFR 227

I use T&D shaft assemlbly #2301 it .375 offset on the intake.
Cost is $978.00 Would not mess with it unless you plan to spin it past 7k. through ran regular 1.6 compcams magnums for the last two years before. T
