If you are running a max effort stock valve angle/port placement class, it's all about the ford symetrical port/20deg heads. (for small blocks) Chevy's can't match the flow...
Ya can go further with a set of Blue Thunder's. .Mine would flow 396CFM on a 4.030 bore,410 on a 4.125 bore. Ya can use an aftermarket head in his class as long as the valve angle is +/-1* of factory.

Yeah once you get a Cleveland it's all over..... Then again a Victor Edelbrock can do 400cfm but it's not -1°

They can NOW with Glidden's design and Chapman porting. Those BT's were doing that in '99. Done by Richard.

Canted Valves help a ton eh!

Too bad these Ford Racing classes don't let real Chevy heads in, all you have to do is give them some 18° and 15° stuff and it would be just as competitive.

Yeah - I've got a set of blue thunder's on the race motor that has been sitting waiting for a car, makes about 550rw. I have a lot of cleveland parts, couple original 4-bolt main blocks, 4 sets of 4v heads...but yes, give the chevy's some 18deg stuff and it's competitive again.

That "race motor" a 408?
Mine made 611RWHP@8000RPM's on motor.I used all the thunder them heads had.
Got an '89 Mustang with a little work(from setting) it could be ready. It's been in the 8.3's on W tires and has a moly cage.Bring that bad boy down and I'll put it in.

Chirs is one hell of a engine builder, so no dobut those are bad *** heads. Tony @ BES finished 3rd last year in the Engine Masters, either way both of those boys know their stuff.

Im using Dart Pro 1's with the cnc port. 23 degree head uses stock valvetrain (or stock configuration shaft mount like im using)flows over 300 cfm @600 lift and I paid 2900 for them ready to go.They have serious potential when ported additionally too.

What kind of intake do you have and what kind of rwhp power are you making with the Darts?

Curious as I'm currently in the market for more aggressive heads and intake as we aren't getting the power we expected from a set of Trick Flows that flow 260@.400 and 300 @.600. Think..... THINK, it's the intake that's killing us, but we're not positive.

Was planning on a set of raised runner heads but the issue of valve train expense, reverse cooling (except AFR's), and porting really adds to the already high cost and I'm not sure what we will be getting out of the deal.

It's a circle track motor, so I stayed with a stock stroke in case it ends up in a class with stock displacement rules. 351", I have a callies 408 crank for it in case all the tubing laying around starts forming it'self into a sprint car chasis, where I can run the extra inches.

I would love to see it run in something, it has been sitting on the shelf for 3 years.

Ya know, I have been waiting for that second shift to get off their *** and do something around here, but it ain't happening. I've got two projects that have been sitting for several years and it would be nice if they were finished too.
