Question 99 Corvette LS1 swap into 95 Z28

My LT1 has 150k miles on it but my cousin said he'd sell the LS1 to me for $1200 that came in his 99 Vette. It only has 33k miles on it. I have an A4 transmission. What all would I need and would it fit with the stock hood? Also, is it possible to use a 93-97 SS hood with the LS1 and have it functional?

Yeah, one is talking about the truck LS1 and the other they won't answer his questions because they keep talking about cost. Thanks for doing the search though. I'll post a new one in the LT1 Tech section.

My uncle buys lots of written off F-bodies and he screws around and sees if he can make hybrids.

He told me the clearance problem with the hood is near the front at the throttlebody.

You might wanna look at a cowl hood or an Ultra Z hood.

You also need an LS1 torque converter.

Try the conversion/ hybrid forum on www.ls1tech.com.

Motor will clear fine, you need the harness, motor mounts, and some other stuff.

Hi, That was my post about the 6.0 ls1. I checked into it alot, one thing that bothered me was that I couldnt use the intake off of the truck, the other was the cost and fabrication that would have to be done in order to make this a clean swap. I stuck with my lt1. Keep me updated I would like to see how this swap goes. I definately think it would be a good one.
Thanks
Scott

The Corvettes have a throttle-by-wire setup. You would need to either get the electronics from the vette to accomodate this or you would need to get a different throttle body of an LS1 camaro/transam. Also, the bellhousing would need to be changed on your tranny. Like the others said you need the motor mounts, torque converter, etc. I think you may in fact need the entire K-frame that the motor mounts are attached to but I'm not sure. Further, I don't know if the camaros/corvettes had the same exhaust manifolds are not, you'll need to research that and either get them off a camaro or go w/ headers for a camaro. Don't forget that your current y-pipe, cats, cat-back wont work though the cat-back could be modified. The only clearance problem would be w/ the intake normally used on LS1's. You could do some minor fabrication w/ plastic or metal tubing and make the 96SS style intake funtional, I don't know what it's clearance between the LS1 and stock hood would be though. Personally I'd recommend a 99style WS6 intake w/ your choice of after market lid etc topped of w/ an SLP Ultra-Z hood. I've seen several guys w/ the U-Z hood modify their LT1s to use the better design of the LS1 intake. The reason I say to use the WS6 one is that it has a larger intake area than any of the others. Another thing to check would be the accesories/locations on the 'vette versus camaro/ta. I know the vette has a totally different steering rack and so it might also have a different pump. Also I'm pretty sure the vettes accesories bracket places the AC, alt. ps pump etc in different places than the camaro but I'm not postive of that. You'll also need to figure out what to do w/ the EGR system, it was different of vettes than f-bods....pesonally I'd have custom programming done and get rid of it. While you're at it go ahead and get the LS6 intake manifold and if you've got some exta flow ($) put a cam in that sucker. Please email me and keep me posted on this swap as my buddy wants to do the same thing.

Wow, thx for the replies guys! That's what I'm talking about. I've decided to hold off on this for now though and get my car repainted first. Then I'm just gonna get my LT1 built up. Thx for everybody's time. It really helped me.
