406 with lt1 intake
406 with lt1 intake
just an idea what do u thank .
Take a 406 put in 4.00 stroke crank. Some trick flow heads (cnc) put on top
an lt1 intake and fuel injecton ,electric water pump .crank trigger and a f.a.s.t to make run . I know that the intake has to be mod. to fit but cheaper
than mini ram intake from t.p.i.s . u would have no distributor to mess with or
carb and 400+ ci. dont know what cam i would put in . would this be worth
it in the end .

Re: 406 with lt1 intake
Huh?
The Lt1 intake modded to fit the older sbc blocks uses the distributor, one of the mods to the intake is to drill the hole for the distributor. I don't know what you are getting at with this question. From somebody who has done this swap also, it isn't without it's problems. You are better off with the mini-ram if you want to bolt it on and start the car.

You can go to the website below, they make conversions for the rear mounted distributor like you are talking about.

Re: 406 with lt1 intake
Well, the LT1 is a dry intake, no water passages. So unless you were going to convert over to reverse flow cooling there would be no place for you thermostat, not to mention no jackets for water.
Why even do this, Holley makes a EFI intake for SBC and BBC that look just like LT1's that are probably alot better and have fuel injector bungs and a distributor already.

Re: 406 with lt1 intake
not to mention anyone really serious about making hp usually ditches the lt1 intake anyway. the high hp lt1 crowd has carried on for years about getting somebody to make a decent intake for us. for the cash and hassle theres a lot better stuff out there that will just bolt up and work better with a gen1 406.
Re: 406 with lt1 intake
The Holley intake is the stealth ram and it works very well plus is relatively inexpensive. I have a friend in Florida with one on a 406 and it runs very well.
Also the words "inexpensive" and "distributorless ignition" do not go well together. If cowl area clearance is an issue you could always run the Moroso front mounted belt driven distributor and use the efi to manage the fuel.
Another option for you if you like the FAST box is to run MSD's cam position sensor that goes into the stock distributor hole of a regular sbc intake. It drives the oil pump plus provides a cam position signal. I would ditch the LT1 intake idea simply for the cooling system issues mentioned above. However, a stealthram with the MSD cam sync plug and a crank trigger would make a nice fairly inexpensive system that would perform very well.

Re: 406 with lt1 intake
Why mess with an LT1 intake when you can get the new Holley Stealthram or Proram I forget the name but it's designed for the Gen I sbc and looks like a tunnel ram and uses their Holley 58 mm tb.
