400+ci chevy owners...how big can you go...

...with a stock block? I found that thy are having deals on 4340 400 stroker cranks on ebay right now and figured it may be the time to build another motor or at least buy a crank, but I dont want to buy one that is loo long to work in a factory block. I may be wrong, but I've heard that some big cranks are too long to fit in a factory block...? Anyway, how much crank can I stuff in there? I'll be changing everything including the pan and clearancing isn't an issue. I want to go 4.125 if possible, but there are 4.1 and 4.0 cranks available too.

You can probably go 4" with major grinding along the pan rails and bottom of the cylinders but you'll need a Rocket block or equivelant with wider pan rails to fit a longer stroke. A small base circle cam will be necessary.
