383, super ram, and ? cam

this set up is going into a 95 truck. it will be a daily driver, do some towing, and i am looking for a little juice when i squeeze the onion. i have AFR 180 heads, i want to go with the accel super ram, wondering from you guys with experience if this cam is acceptable. it is a comp cam hydraulic roller with lobe sep of 112, 212/218 duration @ 0.050" and .52"/.528" with 1.6's.

Personally I would choose a wider LSA for a vehicle that was going to be used for towing. What tranny and converter do you plan to use?

I'd look at the 211 @.050 cam Lingenfelter designed to work with the SuperRam. Think you could get a better performing custom grind but LPE has alot of R&D behind that cam, so I don't think you could go wrong with it.

Just watch your static compression and more importantly, your dynamic. That's a determining factor in your low-end tq (pulling power).

i already have the cam, but have changed a few plans since i got it. so i was wondering if it will work o.k., or would i really be that much better off getting a different one. the boys at comp cam suggested that cam for what i was after. i didn't want to go too nutty on the compression ratio, but it sits about 9.7:1. i also have H beam rods and forged alum pistons. hopefully that should take the stress of towing up hills. not that i do a lot of it, but there is the rare occasion.
as for the trans, i will be totally redoing the 4L60E. updated, stronger parts where ever possible. i believe all the weak links have available better parts now. also will be running the rear end out of a 454ss.

If you get a decent converter (and a good tranny cooler) and aren't running a really long gear I think it will work pretty good. Not opitimal though.
