215rr AFR lt4 heads

What kind of flow numbers everyone getting out of these heads? You have to convert to a single plane intake and run carb style TB? Does the victor efi intake bolt up to this head or any other intake or does some machine work need to be done to make the bolts line up?
wanna get this head as cast and have Advanced induction do the work on it. run a victor intake with a solid roller on my 385
any ideas are appreciated.

thanks
Santore

With 2.100"/1.625" valves...

Valve Lift - Intake/Exhaust cfm @ 28 in. H2O
0.100" - 63.5/52.7
0.200" - 119.4/95.3
0.300" - 193.1/151.3
0.400" - 256.5/187.2
0.500" - 297.5/211.7
0.600" - 315.7/225.9
0.700" - 332.0/231.5
0.750" - 333.4/233.5
0.800" - 335.6/236.2

I have a Hogan's intake, so I can't help you with the intake questions.

WoW awesome #'s were those straight from AFR? Or did you have someone port them once you got them? I am sure you have a large sum of money involved to put down those kind of #'s care to embellish?

The heads were delivered bare from AFR and flowed ~285 cfm as a baseline, I was told. They have both the standard and spread-port bolt pattern for headers and perimeter bolt valve covers are required.

B&B Performance did gasket matching and some initial porting, then sent the heads to Hogan's for the intake to be fabricated.

http://home.gci.net/~jimlab/images/Intake/PC050046.jpg

After they were returned, B&B did the rest of the porting and assembled the heads with 2.100"/1.625" Manley Ti valves, Comp Cams 943 Pacaloy springs, AFR Ti retainers and locks.

Then (obviously) the engine was assembled and run on B&B's dyno, but problems with the Opti-spark kept it from hitting its power peak and no tuning was done. It still made 641 hp @ 6,600 and 637 @ 7,400 on either side of ignition dip on the fairly rich base maps, though. Brian (B&B) said he felt there was probably 675-680 horsepower in it after tuning, but for various reasons mentioned in other threads, that never took place.

I'm in the process of converting it over to an MSD crank trigger and digital CPC cam sync stub with LS1 coil packs and FAST eDIST to solve the ignition problem. BTW, it's a 396 with 11.4:1 CR (build sheet says 12.2, but the math is wrong) and currently has a Comp Cams 260/266 @ 0.050", 0.688"/0.688" 112 lsa solid roller in it, but I'm probably going to tone it down a little bit now that I know it makes plenty of power.

Jim, your setup is amazing. How much did the hogan's intake set you back if you dont mind me asking? Would I need to run some different as far as igniton goes?

anyone else run these heads? what are yall getting out of them. and what intakes are you running?

Thanks! $2,850, set up for direct port nitrous... if I needed it.

Not necessarily.

Some people have no problems with Opti-sparks, I just seemed to have been cursed. I sent down a brand new Opti with my engine parts and they had problems with it. Another new Opti was tried with the same results (shown in the dyno sheet). I'm switching to coil per cylinder, but there's always the chance that it was something to do with my SEFI-8LO or perhaps the harness. I'm going to go over my harness carefully and my SEFI-8LO was sent back and reflashed for inductive pick-up (crank trigger) operation, so it should be good. We'll see.

Sweet! Thanks Jim

Redding is about 1 1/2 hours away from me. Look like I'll be visiting them sometime soon.

Is there a contact person you talked with.

"They recently relocated from Redding, CA." means they're no longer in Redding.

Ask for Brian.

Our RR's should flow close to 350. Still waiting on my order from AFR.

Just depends on what you can afford. A carb style victor intake (p/n 2926) would obviously be the cheapest route. Or you can go with a custom sheetmetal intake. What is the purpose of the car going to be?
