yet another question about 4th gen rears

ok so i found a rear end for my car, its $300 and its local so I'll be picking it up

the mounting brackets for the brakes are included but no calipers

what would you suggest I get for rear brakes? I know I can just get a set from auto zone to fit the '95 rear end but they're still like $65 each

then there's the brake line issue as well as the proportioning valve. what proportioning valve have you guys used?

and will my stock 85 z28 rims fit on the rear w/o adaptors?

thanks guys

The brakes at Autozone probably have a core charge, so you will probably be paying $115-125 per caliper since you don't have any cores to trade in.

I don't think the 15' wheels will fit unless you grind off the fins of the caliper, I've always had 16 and 17" wheels on my cars. And you won't need any spacers.

I can't answer the other questions since the rears we got had brake lines on them and my car already had disc brakes.

yeah i was going to avoid the core charge thing by just finding an old pair of calipers and putting them in the box, i used to work there so i know they don't check the cores

anyone else know if my wheels will fit? i really can't afford new rims, if they don't fit then i'll just go with finding another 3rd gen rear instead...... although the idea of 4 wheel disc brakes is very nice

You've got the right idea for calipers....take in some Honda calipers or something and get new ones. If the hard lines are still on the rear then you're cool....the flexible hose will bolt right up to the fitting on the chassis above the rear. As far as a prop valve, you'll want a J65 (4-wheel disc) valve from an '89 or newer car (made for the PBR rear brakes.) I don't know if your wheels will clear or not. Everyone I know who's done the swap already had 16" or 17" wheels.

My friend has 15" Weld Drag Lights on his 96 Trans Am and he needed to grind the calipers down to clear the wheel.
If I had a 15" wheel, I'd test it for you.
