WOW, talk about a better idle
I installed a MSD 6A and it's coil.... damn.... talk about quicker starts, smoother idle (idles about 100-200rpm higher though), no surges, etc.
I did the same on my truck like 3 years ago. I had the same results, but no where NEAR as nice as what the Camaro experienced.
Still havnt upgraded wires or replaced the plugs yet. Need to do that ASAP. Damn thats gunna suck.

Ok well I finally got it all hooked up (I wanted it to look at least somewhat nice, and havnt had much time to finish it). I just got done driving it. Idle and throttle response was much better (much more so than when I put the exact coil and box on my truck 3 years ago).
I still havnt even changed the wires, plugs, cap and rotor yet on this car either.
I wasnt looking for performance (even though Im sure there is some change). Besides it has like 170k miles on it.
Guess I will know about gas mileage later on down the road. It didnt make a difference on my truck.

I have found that an ignition amplifier setup (like MSD and others) usually makes an "oh wow" kind of difference only if the original ignition was kinda worn out to begin with. Having a wicked strong spark covers up a multitude of sins. A marginal coil will suddenly fire like a nuclear reactor with an MSD strapped to it.
The one truly back-to-back expereince I had switching from a standard GM HEI in perfect condition (along with fresh plugs and wires) to the MSD netted a slightly smoother idle (maybe 25 RPMs faster), slightly better starts, no difference in power (probably a few HP on a dyno- no seat-of-the-pants difference) and about 1 MPG improvement in mileage (from about 14 to 15 in a mild performace street setup). Better for sure, but probably not the bang-for-the-buck champ.
I usually don't use them unless I'm going to run boost or nitrous- where the difference is more dramatic since you have to jump the gap against massively higher cylinder pressures.
