will traction bars solve my torque arm problem?

Im taking out the 700r4 and dropping in a powerglide, therefore, i have no torque arm mount any more. Can i just toss the torque arm and use traction bars instead?

If this is for the "8 second project", I'd buy a dedicated drag torque arm that has a weld in crossmember. The only "traction bars" for F-bodies were from lakewood as I remember and many on LS1tech have had them break on slower than 8 second cars. I'd not risk it.

I didnt thnk anyone made traction bars for third gens. You can use laddre bars, they can be had ceom SUmmit for mid $200s. Jusst have to have em welded in and then you can ditch the traction bar I think.

Can I ask why you're putting a 'glide in a 12 second car? I suspect it would be faster with a turbo 350. Just wondering.

As for the torque arm, Jegs makes one that mounts to the transmission tunnel, no welding required. It is designed for traction for drag use. I'd probably try that one for your use.

The Lakewood Lift bars for coil spring cars look like this:

Check the picture at the top right. Those are probably what the post is referring to.

I dont care about 1/4 mile e.t.'s, i just care about 1/4 mile consistency. a car that only has to shift once is more consistent than a car that has to shift twice. I beat 9 sec. cars all the time with my 14 sec. grand prix GTP that way. The only reason i care that it runs in the low 13, high 12 range is so i can be in the time requrements for the MOD class at NRP (which i believe is a 13.99 or faster?).

Thanks for all the info so far, im looking into all the products mentioned. I guess i shouldve said lift bars instead of traction bars, heres a link to yearone.com that shows what i was looking at. its in the suspension/chassis section under "lakewood." Theyre called the "traction action lift bars"

Any one know if that will solve my problem?

Those are the ones that there was a big thread on LS1tech.com on a while ago. Many people that tried them had them break on the car and after limited use. I'd stay far away from those. Look at a better torque arm, like the Jegs or similar.

You definately want to stay with using the torque arm setup. Go to www.spohn.net, and check under torque arms. They have crossmember and torque arm combo kits for all kinds of tranny swaps, TH350,400, powerglide etc. Check them out. Good Luck!!
